Dr Amanda Ch'ng
Principal Clinical Psychologist
PhD (UWA), postgraduate clinical psychology training
Amanda is a Clinical Psychologist who has worked for many years in the public health system and private practice in WA providing mental health care to adults and adolescents. She has assisted people experiencing depression, anxiety, acute and post traumatic stress, grief, loss and who are struggling to adjust to illness or major life transitions. She has worked extensively with people adjusting to traumatic accidents, cancer, rheumatological conditions, illness, amputation and other disability. Amanda also has an interest in psychological approaches to the management of chronic pain, as an adjunct to medical treatment.
Amanda completed both a PhD and postgraduate training in clinical psychology at the University of Western Australia. Her PhD, in the area of adjustment to illness/health problems, entailed a series of research projects with patients who had experienced stroke, identifying psychological processes that assist with adjustment. Ways of coping that might improve psychological wellbeing, or reduce depression and anxiety, following a major health event were identified.
Amanda draws on her experience with a range of treatment techniques, providing evidence based treatments that are customised to the needs of each individual. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Humanistic Existential approaches are employed to assist clients.
Amanda is an AHPRA Psychology board approved supervisor for Psychologists and Clinical Psychologists in training. She has academic teaching experience, and has provided clinical supervision at a number of universities. Amanda also has developed and delivered many training workshops for organisations looking to provide staff training.
